Ira Yeager: Figurative Painting

Mar 16, 2013 to May 26, 2013

Ira Yeager at the Exhibit Opening

This well-established North Bay artist’s journey was launched with the Bay Area Figurative group at the San Francisco Art Institute. Yeager traveled and painted widely (Italy, Greece, Morocco, Mexico, Guatemala, Santa Fe, and of course New York). Archived drawings and paintings from his early years are shown in the South Gallery, and the large oils and mixed media works are installed in the West Gallery.

Exhibit curator Brian Fuller notes: "My hope for this exhibition is to not necessarily follow a path of historical retrospect-instead, focus and highlight an outstanding group of paintings that represent Yeager's nearly 60 year commitment, specifically to The Figure. No matter if it emerged from the 1950's and his time of discovery with the Bay Area Figurative movement and noted teachers Diebenkorn and Bischoff, or reflective of his more recent Homage Series works to the Great Masters-I want to share with the viewer, Yeager's love for the tension of the line through his drawing, as well as his signature and historical approach to color-through his unique and defining representation of figuration...".
