The woodcuts created by artist David Tim represent a defiant portrayal of life. Tim captures a variety influences that shape an individual's views on society and projects them into each print. He redefines his woodcuts by incorporating different materials like textiles, painting and drawing in order to bring in different textures, patterns and colors. These materials bring another context to who, where and what is important in the main subject's story.
David Tim on "Procession"
"The piece turns an otherwise conventional narrative of grief and misfortune into a pivotal movement where the subject senses a feeling of progress and life."
"Homecoming highlights the people and influences that have played a pivotal role in my life and in the lives of others. The people that I meet and interact with influence the artwork I create. Each figure tells its own personal story, its own history."
David Tim was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He obtained his BFA in printmaking and ceramics from Iowa State in 2012, and obtained his MFA in printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute in May of 2015.
