Youth views

Coastside Youth Speak Out opens January 4 at the Caldwell Gallery. The exhibit sheds light on substance use, social norms and community health.

The show began in the spring of 2018 when youth leaders in Half Moon Bay and Pescadero began a photovoice project, researching the environments influencing substance abuse.

Youth toured their cities, cameras in hand, entering into dialogue with community members about the issue and their project, and documenting their work with photos.

This exhibit is presented through the combined efforts of the Youth Leadership Institute and the San Mateo County Arts Commission. It will be on view through February 27.

The Caldwell Gallery is at 400 County Center, Redwood City. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It is curated by Boris Koodrin. Visit cmo.smcgov.org/arts-commission.
